Seventeen Paintings by Thad - 2008
The comments below describe pretty well what I think about painting

1. Three Hills
2. Blue Orchids
Robert Frost said "poetry is play with words." I think of painting as play with shapes and colors....after a while you develop your favorite kinds of shapes....repeating them sometimes and then adding a surprise or two. After a while you love shapes so much you feel as if you were eating them as you draw them.
3. Capital Es in Space
4. Clown Fish
5. Cross Sections - Final
6. Es-#4
One of my students said he wanted "something to happen" on the canvas. I want that too. A painter friend of mine said when he looks at a Cezanne it feels like he had a shot of whiskey
7. First Three Minutes 2
8. Four Hills

9. Four Masks
10. Capital Es-Woods

Kandinsky said painting was visual music. Instead of hearing lyrical passages, you see them. Instead of hearing rich harmonies, you see them. Instead of hearing change of key you see it.

11. Ice Age
12. Mirror Landscape
13. Phone Line
14. Red Fence 2
15. Sidehills
16. Spiral

When I saw Henri Rousseau's "The Dream" I thought I was in heaven. I have tried to create that transcendental feeling....maybe sometimes getting close, I don't know.

17. Blues
