A colleague took the photo on the left of me at work with my Amaryllis. I'm growing it as part of a School of Medicine staff contest, and I think it's going to win. This first set of flowers was on a stunted and bent stalk instead of the tall, straight one that is normal. But the flowers were huge and gorgeous. The
flash and low light don't do justice to the deep salmon pink inside
the flower's throat. Since this photo was taken about 10 days ago, another
stalk rose two feet and four of six luscious buds have opened on it.
I never got such gratification from growing a plant. Notice the wooden
box with a wolf on it on the shelf behind me. Neil & Melinda gave
it to me for Christmas last year. |
This photo was taken a few years ago at a Yellow Springs Perry League T-Ball game. Jimmy has been head coach since 1985. Under his leadership, the program has grown to involve close to 100 children between the ages of 2 and 8 each summer. He leads using "T-Ball Taoism," which seems to mean if we all smile and have fun, everything will work out to the best in the end. There are no strikes and no outs and everybody gets a turn.
