Aerobatics? Why Aerobatics?

Because I want to be a better, safer, more proficient pilot. Last year I became a Private Pilot, and this last summer I earned an Instrument Rating. For me flying is not a way to get someplace in a hurry - the airlines are always cheaper and usually faster - but is rather a focus for learning about all sorts of different things. And now that I've gotten a taste of it I've found that it's something I want to do well.

Aerobatics Course Completed
"I completed the aerobatics course today, November 10, 2004. Did a couple random maneuvers and then a competition type sequence of loop leading directly into hammerhead turn leading directly into Immelman leading directly into a one turn spin, any one of which would have scared the piss out of me
before I began all this. "

The Super Decathalon, used as a trainer.
This
shows the crosshair aiming device used for judging
attitude, and also the aileron "shovel". The shovel provides a kind of
power steering for the ailerons. Even so, the control forces are heavy.

Pitts Special
The Pitts Special, which is a specialized, all-out, aerobatic airplane.
It's what my instructor uses in competition and air shows.
