The Celebrity Lecture Series at Michigan State University
presented by the Dean's Community Council of the College of Arts and Letters
It began in 1989, and we brought famous authors to speak on campus. The speakers included Tom Wolfe, Susan Sontag, Arthur Miller, E.L. Doctorow, Norman Mailer, Maya Angelou, Jacques D'Amboise, Carlos Fuentes, Pat Conroy, Joyce Carol Oates, Tony Hillerman, Joseph Heller, Kurt Vonnegut, Judith Jamison, Philip Roth, Derek Walcott, Terry McMillan, Margaret Atwood, Edward Albee, Isabel Allende, John Updike, Jane Smiley, Garry Wills, John Irving, Amy Tan, Maxine Hong Kingston, David McCullough, David Halberstam, and Sherman Alexie.

 

Dean's Community Council's Trip to Rome
Alan created the DCC's International Travel Program
Groups went each year to another country:
England, France, Italy, Greece and Turkey
