Alan's memory of another boat trip

In another expedition with this rowboat, Mac and I rowed the boat out of Detroit Harbor and on to Lake Michigan to explore Hog Island. When our mother discovered us missing she frantically called on the Coast Guard. However, Mac and I were soon seen rowing home and the emergency subsided. We had a great adventure and couldn't understand what the excitement was all about.

Thad's memory of the incident

I remember your disappearance very clearly; however, I don't remember D calling the Coast Guard....though she probably did.

But what I do know for fact is that you two were not seen rowing in....rather, you were both lying in the boat, letting it drift. That was the scariest part....it was bad enough that you disappeared but to see the empty rowboat with nobody in it floating with the current was traumatic. I'll never forget it. I don't think you were "playing a trick" but rather enjoying the novelty of letting the boat float free without your help.
